eat your fruits 'n veggies

our next guest is a new friend of mine.  brooke of silly mama quilts!

brooke and i met at spring quilt market, she was there as part of the Quilted Fish design team.

she was so nice and even shared her simply color FQ bundle with me - that's the sewing equivalent of a blood oath!  sisters for life! ;)

her favorite things about summer are:
long days
hiking and camping
playing in the water
family vacations
garden produce

she blogs and sews and sells her fun quilted awesomeness in her etsy shop, where she always offers FREE shipping!  she's also offering one reader a $20 shop credit today!

Hello, Brooke here from Silly Mama Quilts.  I am super excited to be apart of the Sew Full of Summer event!  However, I must admit as a mom of three kiddos at home plus an older one, sometimes summer wears me out!  There I said it!  Maybe someone can relate....maybe....

I thought you might enjoy a quick, fun tutorial....

Supplies for this project:

49 assorted 2.5 inch squares or a mini charm pack plus a few extras

18 inch square piece for the back
A fat quarter for binding or two strips the full width of fabric

Batting
Finished size is about 15 inches square

I used my 2.5 inch squares from this line and added a few from my Kona solid mini-charms

7 x 7 is my layout

Sew each row together then press

For the back, I selected a cute hippo canvas weight print

I decided to quilt this piece with an off center big circle

I used a coordinating print for the binding.  Hope you enjoyed this fun project!

thanks so much brooke!  i love the circle quilting, i will have to try that out!

and now for the giveaway details:

 a Rafflecopter giveaway

winner will be chosen july 16th at noon cst and will have one week to claim prize.  thanks so much, and good luck!

My kids are grown, so I long for a house full of noise! I do get my grands for 2 weeks, then I take them home on the train and stay for another week! Yippee for summer vacation!

I will be happy to get the Student Drivers off the road, for some reason, my street is a pass through for them.

My kids are grown and gone. If school were in session, I would get to see my grandson more because his mama and daddy would be back to work and I could steal him away to give them a break.

I need another month of summer break. It is way too short! I am still not recovered from last school year!

We kid-sit my grandnieces during the school year, so we want the summer break to continue. It's OUR vacation from kids when school is out.

My kiddos are all grown and my kiddos and their children are visiting with my grandson - so I guess I don't want vacation to end:)

Thank you

I work full time and kiddos are both going to be in high school this fall (they're independent), so summer vacation flies by just like the school year for me.

My kids are driving me absolutely crazy! So glad it isn't just me!

This will be the first time my kiddo will go off to school... it's just pre-school but I'm really excited for her and for the little bit of quiet I'll get around here. But at the same time, I'm going to cry like a baby when she's gone!!!

My kiddos are all grown but since I am a teacher I am not ready for school yet!

I am divided. My sewing machine and the creative part of me really is getting ready for these crazy kids to get out of the house and go back to school. BUT they are growing so fast and changing so quickly, I almost hate to send them back and admit they are a year older!

Since I am a grandma, I of course wish it were longer. But....I do remember always being ready when the boys were still in school. So I know you young mom's are feeling some time constraints on your sewing fix. A word of advice, you will miss them when they grow up and leave so relish every minute with them, no matter what!

No kids yet here, but I've always longed for those first days of fall.

Is it wrong that since I don't have kids, I can't wait for them to go back to school so they stop throwing stuff accidentally over my fence? I know I was much more eager for break to last forever when I was a kid!

It is winter here so I am ready for school to start - my children do not like being inside and I am tired of drying the floor and washing clothes that don't dry.
During summer I love having my children with me, they are so much fun.

No kids here, and it's just now starting to get sunny, so I hope summer sticks around awhile.

I like the fact that there's no school stress BUT I don't know how much longer I can keep my sanity w/them at home all day! The dishes, the "I'm bored"s, the sitting around, the computer... :)
